After stepping out of the airport heading to Mount Hood, I sensed this was going to be quite a departure from the perfect weather of Scottsdale. I finally got a taste of winter and I loved it. Mount Hood is the quintessential setting to relax and get away from it all. Hiking, white water streams and roaring fires abound. A quick 45 minute drive leads to several day trips to the wine country, a thriving Portland food scene and maybe a visit to Powell’s Bookstore which houses over one million titles. After thoroughly enjoying the rugged side of Mount Hood, I was treated to a tour of three cabin and two home tours in the Portland area by two local interior designers. Tip:While in Portland, dine at Departure Restaurant at The Nines Hotel…amazing!
The Texas Hill Country is like nothing else! To prepare for the upcoming Sanctuaries Wine Tour, I traveled there with friends to select the perfect wineries and events. The rolling landscapes, open skies, delectable food, relaxed settings and friendly people, all made for a perfect trip. Really looking forward to the tour in April, just in time for the lavender blooms. It will be amazing!
Early on my husband and I both worked in the hotel industry. With daughter in tow, we moved quite often calling 15 hotels home over a span of 16 years. We finally settled down in Scottsdale, AZ in 2005.
Traveling has become our way of life. As a hotel guest you expect stellar service standards, sophisticated common areas and above all cleanliness. Today’s hotels have become more authentic in design concept and have made a turn to clean and crisp decor. While we travelled to Nashville to walk through a new hotel renovation, my husband and I stayed at The Thompson Nashville in the Gulch District. The Thompson displayed a perfect example of design detail combined with an immaculate color palette.
Where do award-winning interior designers find amazing furniture, lighting, accessories, and bedding? How do we stay on top of the latest and greatest? At the national design shows!
I will be attending the Las Vegas World Market in January. A 5 million+ square foot, state-of-the-art venue houses unique finds for all styles of residential design. I will be taking two guests to the show this year. If you are looking for inspiration, unique pieces or to update a living area, this is your opportunity to curate like a designer.
